Author Guidelines

Authors intending to submit manuscripts to the Journal of Atmospheric Science and Technology (JAST) must carefully review and follow the guidelines outlined below. Manuscripts that do not comply with these requirements may be returned prior to peer review.


1. Scope and Article Types

JAST publishes high-quality scholarly work in atmospheric science and related technological applications. Submissions must fall within the journal’s defined focus and scope.

The journal accepts the following article types:

  • Research Articles (original research findings)

  • Review Articles (comprehensive literature syntheses)

  • Technical Notes (methodological or technological innovations)

Manuscripts must demonstrate originality, scientific rigor, and relevance to atmospheric science and technology.


2. Manuscript Preparation and Formatting

Authors are required to prepare manuscripts using the official JAST template in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

Formatting requirements:

  • Font: Cambria

  • Font size: 10 pt

  • Line spacing: 1.15

  • Use the predefined heading styles in the template

  • Do not manually adjust margins, spacing, or font styles


3. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should include the following sections:

  • Title

  • Abstract (single paragraph, concise and self-contained)

  • Keywords (maximum six)

  • Introduction

  • Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Conclusions

  • Acknowledgements (if applicable)

  • Funding (if applicable)

  • Conflict of Interest

  • Author Contributions

  • References


4. Tables, Figures, and Equations

  • Equations must be created using the Word Equation Editor and numbered consecutively.

  • Tables must be editable (not images), numbered consecutively, and include descriptive titles above the table.

  • Figures must be placed inline with the text, numbered consecutively, and include captions below the figure.

  • All tables and figures must be cited in the text using their assigned numbers (e.g., Table 1; Fig. 2).


5. Citation and Reference Style

All citations and references must follow APA 7th edition format.

In-text citation examples:

  • Single author: (Smith, 2020)

  • Two authors: (Lee & Chen, 2021)

  • Three or more authors: (Garcia et al., 2019)

  • Multiple citations: (Garcia et al., 2019; Lee & Chen, 2021; Smith, 2020)

Reference list examples:

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software (e.g., Mendeley or Zotero) and carefully verify all references before submission.


6. Ethical and Originality Requirements

Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. All submissions are screened for plagiarism prior to review. Similarity levels exceeding acceptable thresholds may result in rejection.

Any use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation must be disclosed in a declaration statement before the References section.


7. Submission Process

Authors must register in the journal’s online submission system prior to submission. Registered users may log in and follow the step-by-step submission procedure.

All correspondence regarding the manuscript will be conducted through the submission system.


8. Open Access Policy

JAST is a fully open-access journal. All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication. The journal does not charge submission or publication fees.

Compliance with these guidelines ensures a smooth review and publication process. Authors are strongly encouraged to review the manuscript carefully before submission to avoid delays.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before proceeding with submission, authors must confirm that their manuscript complies with all of the following requirements. Submissions that do not meet these criteria may be returned without review.

Please confirm that:

  • The manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal.

  • The manuscript falls within the scope of the Journal of Atmospheric Science and Technology (JAST).

  • The manuscript has been prepared using the official JAST template.

  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

  • The manuscript is formatted in Cambria 10 pt with 1.15 line spacing, as required.

  • All tables and figures are embedded within the text at appropriate locations and are editable (not images for tables).

  • All equations are created using the Word Equation Editor and are editable.

  • All in-text citations and references follow APA 7th edition format.

  • All references cited in the text appear in the reference list and include DOIs or URLs where available.

  • The manuscript includes all required sections (Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References).

  • Any use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies has been fully disclosed in a declaration statement (if applicable).

  • All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.

  • Any conflicts of interest and funding sources have been clearly disclosed.

By proceeding with submission, authors confirm that all information provided is accurate and that the manuscript complies with the journal’s editorial and ethical standards.

Sharing and disclosure

JAST does not sell or rent personal data. Personal information is not shared with third parties for marketing or unrelated purposes. Access is limited to authorized editorial staff and trusted service providers who support journal operations and are bound to confidentiality where applicable.

Data security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or loss.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting the editorial office. Requests will be handled in accordance with applicable laws and publishing requirements, including the need to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.
